On July 30th, the Cairns Crocs Tri Club hosted the second race in this season’s Nissan State Series, the 36th annual Coral Coast Triathlon. This Tropical North Queensland event was a success, accommodating over 160 competitors.
The spectacular location in Port Douglas, coupled with the challenging conditions on the day and the course’s tough design produced great racing conditions for athletes. This event featured four events: Kids Aquathlon, Enticer, Sprint and Standard distances.
In a small field of athletes aged 7-11, Alistar Hickey, and Ava McIntyre became the male and female winners of the kids aquathlon. The enticer category was met with some competitive racing, with Joel Davidson taking the male title in a time of 34:32, followed by female winner, Aoife Puri in a time of 37:15.
The sprint distance also delivered some fast times, with Leigh Whitney, the top male, finishing the course in a time of 1:08:41. Not far behind Whitney was the female champion, Emma Simpson, completing the course in 1:11:52.
Lastly, the largest event of the day was the Olympic distance race, where Tim Green won the male category with a time of 2:02:57, followed by female winner Megan Hendry who finished in 2:16:57.
