Eric Leach from (Red Dog Triathlon Training), and Madison Turner from (Team T-Rex) retained top spots in the Nissan State Series with wins in round 12 of the Queensland Triathlon Series last weekend at Robina.
Michael Hooper from the (Sunshine Coast Tri Academy) stole the show with the fastest age group race of the day going 1:56:32 to top the podium in the 20-24 Males, but it was Leach and Turner who have further displayed why they currently top the Nissan State Series leader board.
Only two points separate the Male 35-39 category’s top 8. James Dimsey from (Red Dog Triathlon Training) sits at the top with the others chasing hard. With four races remaining, and the State Championship points on offer at Kingscliff, Goondiwindi, and Moreton Bay, it’s anyone’s category at this point.
Competition was tight among the Male 55-59 sprint category where Steve Sullivan (Triathlon Queensland) and Philip Bird (Sunshine Coast Tri Club) battled it out for the top step leaving only one second between the two. Steve was the victor with a time of 1:21:50.
The speedy competitors showed no signs of a holiday slow down at Robina, and as Round 12 wraps up, we are already eyeing off Round 13at the iconic Hell of the West – Goondiwindi. Hell of the West doubles as the State Long Course Championships, which means top 10 placegetters earn championship (1.5x) points.
