The coastal foreshores of Hervey Bay welcomed triathletes over the weekend with warm sunshine and beautiful blue beaches. The Hervey Bay 100 is the perfect long distance race heading into Christmas and great preparation for the State Championship event at Hell of the West next year in February.
Simon Hearn (Sunshine Coast Tri Club) took home a win this year in the Male Opens Category followed by last year’s winner, Kiwi Callum Milward. Sarah Crowley had a remarkable race where she broke the former Open Female record by fifteen minutes set by three-time champion Kym Coogan. The entire open podium smashed the previous record, demonstrating the great depth of the field.
In the age group races, Rebecca Smith (Noosa Tri Club) finished in first place in the Female 55-59 category followed by Penny Palfrey (Bargara Triathlon Club) coming in second.
James Alexander (Energy Lab Triathlon) was the fastest age grouper, finishing 7th overall, just ahead of Craig Alers (South Bank Triathlon Club) in the men’s 30-34 age group.
Kephren Izzard (Bargara Triathlon Club) won the Male 35-39 category with a finishing time of 3:57:26 while his club-mate, Sherry Ey (Bargara Triathlon Club Inc) placed third in the Female 45-49 category.
